This is a shorter blog. I will be writing a few shorter blogs like this to recap on what I learned from Girl, Stop Apologizing.
August 3, 2019
I just finished reading Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis.
I have also read her book Girl, Wash Your Face.
I love them both. Definitely what I need at the moment.
But I could read a million books like this... And they won't "fix" what I'm going through.
I put fix in quotes because I need to make sure I know that I am not broken. I do not need "fixing." Although at times I think I do. So those quotations are a reminder for me and you(if you need it).
I AM NOT BROKEN!
Anyways, before I go on my walk for the morning... I wanted to start this blog.
I am going to review the table of contest of Girl, Stop Apologizing.
I am going to write what I got from each chapter.
Again, this is a reminder for me. To make sure that I get these amazing lessons drilled into my head. :)
EXCUSES TO LET GO OF:
1. That's Not What Other Women Do
My first thought is... Who the heck cares what other women do! I am not them. You are not them. You are not me. DO YOU! Do what makes you happy! Do what gets you closer to your goals. We all (definitely me included) care way too much about what others think of us and OUR LIFE! <-- Right there! You see that?! It is OUR LIFE!!!! YOUR LIFE! MY LIFE!!! So we all need to live it our way!!! Of course, keep your loved ones in mind. Don't be selfish or rude... But I think you get what I'm trying to say :)
2. I'm Not A Goal-Oriented Person
Well, for me, this line is a lie. I know I am a goal-oriented person. I'm so competitive with others and myself, which is a good and bad thing. Good thing because it pushes me to become better, and achieve great things. Bad thing because I care about what others are doing... And I compare myself to them. But I strongly think we all have goals. We all what something is life. Once you figure that out... Then you just have to figure out how to get there. In this book it talks about figuring out what you want in life... What is you ULTIMATE GOAL? Then you work backwards from there. I have heard that so many times... But this book really helped me understand how to go about it. Rachel broke in down so it was less intimidating to map it all out. Now I just have to do that. I think I'm going to create a few different maps. One for Keeks Treats. One for my fitness. And one for my life in total.
If you don't think you are a goal-oriented person.. I just think you haven't found what you really want to do/accomplish yet. I would take some time to yourself and really think about it. And it's okay if you don't really know yet. I don't either. And I will be/have been taking time to just be with myself. No music, no podcast, no tv or youtube... Just me and my thoughts. It's very therapeutic and eye-opening.
3. I Don't Have Time
BULLSHIT! We all have the same 24 hours in a day!!!! I know I've talked about "not having time" before. It's a common excuse when it come to health and fitness. But now we are applying it to other life goals/accomplishments. It is BS no matter what you are using it for. If something is important to you, you will make the time for it!!! End of story.
I know that I get lost on my phone multiple times a day. That is time that I could be reading, or writing, or baking. Something more productive for sure. Don't lie to yourself and say you don't have the time. MAKE IT!
4. I'm Not Enough To Succeed
I'm not even sure what to think of this. I don't like it. I very rarely have thought that I wasn't enough. So it is hard for me to imagine not being enough to succeed. But I know there are people out there who do think that of themselves. All I have to say to that is... YOU ARE ENOUGH! We all are enough/special in our own way. We all have something to offer to the world. We just have to figure out what that is. And then you just have to believe in yourself. Believe in what you are capable of. Surround yourself with people who believe in you. And people who push you to be better.
5. I Can't Pursue My Dream and Still Be A Good Mom/Daughter/Employee...
This one is also silly to me. I don't know if it is because I am selfish, or because I don't have kids of my own... But I feel like everyone should be able to work towards their goals. No one should stop them. Unless their goal was to actually harm someone or something. You can pursue your dream if you really want to. I think this goes back to MAKING time.
6. I'm Terrified Of Failure
This one is a really thing for me. For a lot of people. I can be a big chicken at times. For instance, today I chickened out driving my all-wheel-drive Subaru down this road because it was too bumpy. LOL. So Tony and I had to hike to our hiking trail. Oh well, we got in extra steps. Ha.
But... When it comes to other things in life... We can't let fear take over. We CANNOT feat failure. Failure is how we learn. Tony and I were talking about how we think that people who go 9 for 9 at their powerlifting meets... We think that they aren't trying hard enough. Don't take this in the wrong way either. I know it is still hard work. I'm just trying to say... When you fail... It allows you to see what you need to work on. Then you can improve and continue to progress in lifting and in life.
7. It's Been Done Before
Before I started Keeks Treats... I didn't think I wanted to because I had an acquaintance that had just started a cookie business. And I didn't want to step on her toes. I didn't want her to think I was trying to copy her. But then... I just decided OH WHAT THE HECK?! I want to do this! Plus, Tony told me to create the IG page. And that opened the door to a whole new world for me :)
I'm pretty sure... Just about everything has been done before. No one is recreating the wheel. Well... There are some people who are... But not cookies or baked goods. LOL. And probably not what you are trying to do either. So just go for it! And shoot! If what you want to do is something completely new... Then you can become a millionaire! Woo!
8. What Will They Think?
As long as you aren't hurting or harming others... Who cares what others think. This is your life! Your dream! Your goal! The end!
9. Good Girls Don't Hustle
This one is also silly to me. But kind of true in its own way. There might be times when you have to go against the "norm." There might be times when you have to ride that fine line. So technically that would make you not a "good girl." LOL. Whatever that means. Let's just leave it at that.
