Here is the final recap of The Hungry Brain. Yay!!!
-Our brains are wired to help us survive in a scarcity environment. We no longer live in that kind of environment. So now our brains can cause us to over eat, gain fat, get diseases and die.
*Change environment to avoid over eating!
1. Labels & info on food
Become aware of the labels! Read what you are consuming!
2. Countermarketing
We need more of this!!! There is too much advertisement out there for all this junk food. We need to advertise the truth about what this junk does to your body and health.
3. Make fattening food more expensive, good food more affordable
You can get a burger for $1, but a salad is $5 (this is just an example). That is crazy! It's like the food industry is purposely trying to make everyone fat, because naturally people are going to go for the better deal.
4. Make healthy food more convenient
This is becoming more popular now! Thank goodness! There are so many meal prep companies popping up! They are a little pricey... But it is worth it if you want to make your health a priority (and don't have the time to cook yourself).
5. Food stamps don't allow people to buy from restaurants
I'm not a huge fan of food stamps.. & I don't know too much about them.
6. Regulate/cut down on food advertising
I talked about this above.
*Life expectancy and quality is dropping due to improper nutrition.
*You need to create your own healthy lifestyle!!! You need to want better for yourself!
1. Fix your food environment
-Get rid of tempting/easy foods
-Reduce your exposure
-Make healthy foods easier for you (example: pre-cut fruit)
2. Manage your appetite
-Choose foods that send satiety signals to the brain
-Whole foods, fiber, protein, still tasty
-Regular activity, good sleep, stress management, and proper hydration
3. Beware of food reward
-Calorie-dense, processed foods can cause cravings and over eating
4. Make sleep a priority
-The bed/room is only for sleep and sex (no tv, computer, or phone)
-Limit blue-light/technology late at night
-Get on a sleep/wake schedule
5. Move your body
-Get moving and do what you enjoy
-Manages appetite and weight
6. Manage stress
-Are you a stress eater? What is causing the stress?
-Fix or avoid.. Try meditation/mindfulness
-Replace stress eating with a more beneficial reward
AND THE END!!!
